POST MASTER’S EDUCATION FOR WORK AND ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY PRACTITIONERS: TOWARDS EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OF EXPERIENCE

26th September – 28th September 2013, Katowice, Poland

Organizing Committee
Prof. Barbara Kozusznik (University of Silesia, Poland), Prof. Ludmila Karamushka (Kostiuk Institute, Kiev, Ukraine), Prof.  Lourdes Munduate (University of Sevilla, Spain), Prof. Mare Teichmann (Tallinn Technical University, Tallinn, Estonia), Prof. Angela Carter (University of Sheffield, Just Development, United Kingdom, Tallinn Technical University).

Small Group Meeting theme
In the face of rapidly changing technology in the global world, our post-industrial civilization may survive provided that it makes the most of human creativity enabling adaptation to change. In particular, it is important that any change agenda links improvements in organizational effectiveness with worker values and well-being. Thus Work and Organizational Psychologists’ (WOPs’) knowledge, skills and competencies will play a crucial role in these developments. However, to meet the challenges of the contemporary world all WOPs must be able to achieve high standards of professional competence.

Small Group Meeting aim and agenda
While it is important to reach consensus about the approaches and minimal standards for a common framework of education of WOP psychologists in Europe; work is on-going in this area. The larger area of inequality and discrepancy are the professional practice competencies and the sensitive issue of how WOPs are supervised; since there is a limited culture of supervision in some countries. The primary reason for this Small Group Meeting (SGM) proposal to explore, with an expert audience, the next steps to be taken by Baltic and Eastern European counties to address inequalities of practice. This work is critical to the development of WOP and to guarantee high quality performance of WOP across Europe.
This SMG will bring together practitioners, researchers and organizational representatives working in the field of WOP, as well as experts in the EFPA-EAWOP Specialised Certificate in WOP to discuss the similarities and differences between WOPs’ education and supervision processes. The aim is to develop new competencies, especially in Western, Eastern and Central Europe that will fill the gaps in professional practice.
Over the course of the three-day conference, participants will critically evaluate the current state of post Master’s education for WOP practitioners, work on developing new approaches and coordinate with one another to work on areas of specialist development.

Confirmed Participants
Keynote speakers chosen among top-level researchers will be invited to contribute to the meeting. Confirmed keynote speakers include:

  • Angela Carter
  • Dave Bartram
  • Henry Honkanen

• Jose Maria Peiro
• Robert Roe
• Ute Schmidt-Brasse
Companies representatives: Ing Bank Slaski, Kompania W?glowa SA

Meeting Format, Dates and Location
This meeting will be a small group workshop taking place over three days. The meeting will begin with a reception and opening address on the 19th September, and conclude with dinner on the 21st September 2013. There will be two full days of intensive interactive sessions where we will collaboratively discuss and chart the main themes of the event. The conference will include a mix of presentations, panel discussions, and break-out sessions to encourage maximum participant involvement.
The meeting will be held in Katowice, Poland within easy reach to the University of Silesia Campus. The city is one of Poland's most surprising destinations - a relatively young, predominantly working class city with a history tied up with the extraction of coal and other manly pursuits. Thanks to its disparate racial and cultural heritage, the city offers visitors a fascinating jumble of German Gothic, inter-war Art Nouveau and some shockingly different socialist architecture, all intermingled with a growing number of glistening capitalist palaces. Postindustrial and post-mining areas are increasingly changing and transforming into popular meeting places for tourists, whom they attract thanks to numerous concerts, exhibitions and meetings with artists as well as thanks to a well-developed public transport  infrastructure.

Submission of Papers
This conference will be limited to approximately 25 participants (committed EAWOP members and supporting persons). All people who have expressed interest in attending the meeting except organisers and key note speakers will be asked to send in a proposal. In addition, there will be an open call for papers. Participants will be selected based on the quality of their proposals.
Theoretical and empirical papers, as well as rich descriptive case studies, are encouraged. Submissions should focus on WOPs’ education and career development according to the challenges of the world of contemporary organizations.

Papers should be submitted to: [email protected]  or  [email protected]

Papers should comply with the following format:

  • Page 1: Title; Author Name; Affiliation; Street address; Email address, Abstract of 250 words.

  • The maximum paper length is 7 pages, Times New Roman, 12pt, double-spaced.

After the review process, each author will be individually notified of the acceptance of their paper. Participants will then need to confirm their attendance. Papers and pre-workshop reflective questions will be made available to all participants in order to facilitate fruitful and in-depth discussions during the meeting.
